Dani glanced up for the hundredth time it seemed, to that woman’s squeal.  Her eyes narrowed as she looked through the window onto the tiny patio.  That rich yuppie woman had crawled into Scott’s lap and was laughing as he whispered something into her ear.  Dani clenched her teeth tightly to keep from screaming.  How long are they going to sit there?

Suddenly, as she sat there seething at him, his gaze met hers from through the glass and across the bookstore.  Blushing furiously she glanced down, horribly embarrassed and angry at having been caught staring.  A few moments later, she glanced up again, and indeed he had gone right back to smothering that woman.  However, this time, as he molested the woman’s throat, his eyes remained focused on Dani.  She glanced away quickly, but somehow, her eyes found their way back, as if magnetically drawn to him.  She watched as his hands pushed the woman’s shawl away, and moved to her shoulders.  Dani felt her hand move to her throat, as if the heat of his lips were searing her skin.  She watched his hands move up to cup the woman’s face, drawing her mouth to his.  His mouth devoured hers, his eyes still captivating Dani, and she lost her breath.

All of a sudden, the phone rang, and Dani jumped, startled from her trance.  Dani exhaled quickly, having felt like she had been holding her breath.
“Chimera’s Eden.”
“Hi, I was wondering if you have any books about Europe, like for backpacking?”
“Yes, we do.  Would you like me to put a couple aside for you?”
“Yes, thank you.  I’ll drop by later this afternoon.”
“Alright, we’ll see you then.”
“Thank you, buh bye.”
“Bye.”

Dani was thankful to the caller from drawing her out of that crazy trance.  How ridiculous of me to be drawn in like that.  Dani shook her head and walked into the backroom.  A few minutes later she returned to find Scott standing at the coffee machine once again.  Having had absolutely enough of his insolence, she stomped over to him.  “Is there a reason why you’re hanging around here?”

Scott gazed down at her and looked rather pleased with himself.  “Does it bother you that I’m here?”
“No,” Dani replied quickly, “but there’s no loitering here.  We’re not a library.”
“Can I help it if we like your coffee?”
“It’s not free, you know.”
“Is that what you’re worried about?”  Scott pulled out his wallet and dropped a fifty-dollar bill into the donation basket.  “There you go.”

Dani grit her teeth and pulled the fifty out, holding it out to him, “we don’t want your money.”
Scott chuckled, “well, you pretty much just said you did.”
“No, that’s not what I meant!”  She growled in frustration, eliciting an amused chuckle from him.  She glared up into that cocky face and fought to keep herself from scratching his eyes out.  “I think you should leave.”

Scott straightened his stance.  “I don’t think we’re ready to do that just yet.”
“Well, that’s just too bad.”
“What is it about us that has you so up-in-arms?”
“Look, you’re loitering and making a display on my patio…” Dani shouted.
“…That nobody can see because of the hedges…” Scott shouted back.
“I can see!”  She erupted.
“Ah, I get it.  You’re jealous.”
“I am NOT jealous.”
“Oh no?”  He smiled, “so what do you call what you were doing earlier while I was out making that display?”
“What?”
“Your staring?”  Scott reminded.
“I was not!  And besides, you were doing it right back to me!”
Scott grinned, “thought you might be feeling left out.”
“Do you think about me a lot when you’re doing that?”  She shot out, not realizing what she was saying until she said it.  “I mean…”
“Oh, I know what you meant,” Scott said darkly, moving closer.  Dani backed up a step, yet Scott continued to follow, step by step until her back was to the counter.  Dani couldn’t blink, nor breathe as she stared up into his deep blue eyes that were burning into her.
“Scott?”  A female voice called.  Scott turned to glance over his shoulder at his lady friend.  Dani took a deep breath and used the opportunity to move behind the counter.
“Can we go now?”  The young woman asked, glancing around the store as if it were a breeding ground for bugs.
“Yeah,” Scott glanced back at Dani before moving towards the door and escorting his date out.

Dani breathed a sigh of relief, and then she noticed the mess they’d left on the patio.  Grabbing a cloth, she headed out, wiping down the tables.  She distantly heard the chimes over the front door ring, and thanked her stars Scott had left before this customer had arrived.
“Do you want to know what I think about?”  The familiar voice purred huskily from the doorway behind her.  Dani froze, yet managed to slowly turn and face him.  All of a sudden, he was moving toward her, his large hand wrapping around her throat, his body pushing her back against the table, and his lips covering hers.  As his mouth assaulted her, his hand about her throat gentled, moving down the smooth skin of her neck, and his hips pressed intimately to hers.  Just as quickly, his hand moved back up, grasping her chin and turning her face away.  “That,” he whispered breathlessly in her ear, “is what I think about.”
So this is another piece to my story. As well, to avoid confusion, when Dani is on the phone and says "Chimera's Eden" that is the name of the Bookstore...at least for now. I'm seeing how it fits. Feel free to comment. Positive criticisms welcome. Please leave negativity at the door, and don't forget to wipe your shoes, new carpet you know. Enjoy!
